Hi, guys.
Timing belt changes are on the line. Tool and competent hands are here. A friend of a car dealer will take care of it, I'll do the hiwi. Since this is (for me) the first ZR change on the A8, I have no idea what I could expect from additional construction sites and try to anticipate, on the V8 there were finally many. The following parts are currently available:
- Timing belt kit with belts, tensioners, rollers and screws
-cooled water thermostat (often too cold)
-Water pump
-Torque crashes (racked off, source surprise)
There must be screws for the Wapu, the ZR wheels and the vibration damper.
What should I do now when everything is apart? Did anyone ever make a shopping list? I would be very grateful for further input!
Best regards
Flo

Hi,
I want to give a brief feedback on how it went.
After your answers, I decided to change the KW-simmerring and the V-belt-reversing roller. Both were indeed indicated, so thank you again for the helpful advice. Unfortunately I had also confused to get the V-belt-pannroll, which would have been on the list too and would have needed it.
For those who know about the D1 and do not yet know how to estimate the D2, some experiences...:
-The space available is plentiful due to the "maintenance position" of the front car. See below.
-the special tool is mainly used for fixing the crankshaft and the counter-holders for camshaft wheels. For the twisting of the thorn no oil from the tub needs. Tool with Kardan plug connection is helpful here, because you can't just get there and also lack the space for a thick joint. In general, this is the most difficult part of the whole operation and the only thing a pit or stage is probably necessary for.
-The extension of the central screw is only necessary for the change of the KW Simmerring. However, this is far more unproblematic in my view than in the D1. 24mm 12 edge, 200Nm + 180°. The already mounted pin acts as counter-holder here.
-The "preparations" are simpler than the D1. The timing belt cladding is clipped and degraded quickly. When assembling, however, it is important to make sure that the lower cladding has an outside view and that the cladding is on straight, otherwise it is dragged.
- The alternator stays on. However, if you want to change the controller, you can turn the two screws out and screw the cables off at the decomposed Lima with the tools available. - Yeah. - Yeah. Second man is welcome here.
- I found it helpful to pay him Win for an hour this time because of the lack of RLF on paper. That's a good €6 and I have everything I'll ever need for the A8. Good service, you have to say.
In particular: maintenance is easy to achieve, see appendix.
Only the bumper is dismantled (to reach two screws above the ventilation grille from the outside, inside then a plug and the water supply when removing), the breakers are removed and their upper screws are replaced by long shaft screws, the lock / lamp carrier is separated from the fenders with two screws, and after pulling off all the disturbing plugs and the upper cooling water hose, let the whole carrier slide forward.
If you can do this on the V8, you can do it on the A8. That's for sure.
Best regards
Flo

Hi municipality,
I'm just going on here because it's about the same subject.
At my AQF, the second ZR change was due (about 236K km), so we got him on the WE.Because we could only start on Saturday in the late afternoon and in the evening the cup finale was up - Mia san mia
- we continued on Sunday after breakfast and were finished around noon. The action took about 7h in the whole, it was easy to work without time pressure, but with a lot of chat and café in between
We did something different than Florian and we did everything in the front - the cooler, the fans etc. . Of course, it's a bit more intense from time to work, but on the one hand you have definitely more space to work and on the other hand it was necessary because I had an oil leak and all of it indicated that it was either from the crankshaft's simmer ring or the crankcase cover's seal. Fortunately, it was the simmer ring that licked us so that we could not expand the "top" oil pan.Otherwise, everything was dry, even the simmerrings of the camshaft's gears and the reverber were still intact after 16 years, but we changed them because they didn't last forever.
At the WaPu I have explicitly searched for one with a metal wheel and as it looks like there are only such ones from GK or HEPU.(At this point Merci again to Hans-Jürgen for his support.)
As Florian already wrote, the covers and lids of the ZR are quite fragile, but I still had a good shot, no rust and not spoiled. The clips and screws of the lower engine cover are a joke and suffer from the Señor Lopez syndrome...
Since some of us drive the AQF below a list of parts I have changed (but is not 1:1 transferable to other MKB's, as e.g. For the AUW, a different set of ZRs from the one needed for the AQF).The cost of the parts amounted to almost 400 eggs (without engine oil and oil filters which I also changed), whereby the ZR set alone hit 220.
